The Spicy Venue – Simply Brilliant

The Spicy Venue is a place that has been on my wish list for a long time. The property is located in a posh part of the city, but the decor of Spicy Venus is simple and unassuming. Walking into Spicy Venu feels almost like walking into someone’s home. The menu is big and contains a little bit of everything you expect from an Indian restaurant, but it’s the Andhra delicacies that are its speciality.

I ordered two starters – Chilly Quail Fry and Chepa Vepudu. Both the dishes arrived in less than ten minutes. The quail was fried perfectly and I loved the spicy mix of onion, chilli, and tomatoes. However, it was overshadowed by the Chepa Vepudu or fish fry, which was nothing short of spectacular. Now, this is a dish that I’ve had many a place, but Spicy Venue absolutely nailed it. The fish was fried beautifully -it had a beautiful crispy coating and a tender and moist centre.

In the main course, I ordered MLA Potlam Biryani, which is a prawn and mutton biryani wrapped in a thin omelette that’s lightly spiced with red chilly. The Biryani was quite different from the traditional Hyderabadi Dum Biryani, but that isn’t really a bad thing. The rice was brilliant, and I loved the overall flavour profile of the dish. The combination of minced mutton, small prawns, and omelette will thrill all non-vegetarians.

While the Spicy Venue innovation in the main course impressed, the real show stealer was yet to come. Spicy Venue’s signature dessert is Apricot Delight, which can be simply described as an apricot pudding with lots of cream. But, descriptions cannot do justice to this beauty, which is a steal at just one eighty bucks. We also ordered a trifle pudding, which was again very good. But, if you are visiting Spicy Venue, you must absolutely order the Apricot Delight.

Through out the night, service was impeccable. The food was served quickly, waiters were attentive, and we didn’t have to beckon to get our glasses refilled or plates changed. The meal for two set us back by around Rs. 1,500, which is very reasonably considering the portion sizes. Very rarely do you get the combination of impeccable food, hygienic environment, and good service without doing serious damage to your pocket. But, Spicy Venue pulled it off!
