The popular Mumbai-based Frozen Yogurt (Froyo) chain, Yogurt Bay, is now in Hyderabad. The dessert parlour opened its doors today and is currently serving Froyos and Waffles.
Their full menu features seventeen flavours, but at any point of time, they will be serving only eight of them. The available flavours are rotated every month. They have several toppings which are categorised into regular, premium, and luxury. The Froyos are priced between sixty to hundred rupees for the mini serving (approximately 100 g), while toppings cost between thirty to sixty rupees. I was invited to a tasting session and had the opportunity to try all of the currently available flavours.
My favourite was the Salted Caramel. It is a beautiful amalgamation of sweet and salt. Chocolate lovers will love the Belgian Chocolate, which is sinfully rich and dark. However, if you aren’t a fan of dark chocolates, this isn’t for you. Another flavour that I’d recommend is the Blueberry Cheesecake. The Mango flavour was good, but the king of fruits was outdone by some of the other options. The Vanilla Froyo wasn’t bad, but I’d recommend livening it up by getting creative with the toppings. I loved it with a special cookie sauce that we were provided. The flavours that didn’t really work for me were the Tiramisu and Oreo. The Tiramisu needed more coffee, and somehow the Oreo Cheesecake didn’t really have any flavour of Oreo biscuits. All of the Froyos are available with a range of toppings and waffle cones.
The waffles were very different from what I’m used to. They are served on a stick and are a lot heavier than usual waffles. I tried the custard and Nutella flavours, and both were not something that I’d be ordering again.
The base price of the FroYos at Yogurt Bay is lower than its competition, but thanks to the flat pricing of toppings, the total bill can quickly climb up. I personally prefer the pay by weight approach adopted by Ci Gusta and Menchie’s. In fact, I feel that Ci Gusta holds an edge even when it comes to the quality, and is still the Froyo joint to beat.
Nevertheless, Yogurt Bay is a fun little dessert parlour that’s a welcome addition to the city’s food scene. They might have missed a trick by not launching during the peak summer months, but a scoop of Froyo is always a brilliant way you liven up your spirits.
